THE INQUEST.

At the inquiry into tho death of Cuy and Williams, suffocated by an inrush of gas in the May Queen mien, the jury returned a verdict to that effect, expressing the opinion that the gas came from tho Thames-llauraki shaft at the thousand foot level, no blame being attachable to any one, and that, the part played by Crawley and James is deserving of high appreciation by the Humane Society. The jury also added a rider that stopping and restarting the Hoots blower used to ventilate the deep levels should be notified to all mines connected threewith. Steps are being taken to secure for Crawley the King Edward medal, he having undoubtedly endangered his own life in a futile endeavour to save Guy.
