TE MAPARA SETTLEMENT.
A considerable amount of success has been attending the efforts of the settlerß who were put on farms in Te Mapara Improved Farm settlement. Despite adverse circumstances and a considerable amount of hardships, such as is usually experienced by pioneer settlers, they have done well, and are to be congratulated for their persistency and determination to attain the goal of success. Many of the settlers have been in a position to pay their rents to the Taranaki Land Board and apply for their leases, whilst a large number are making similar applications at the next sitting of the board. This will mean that those who have obtained their lease, and those who are about to apply for them, will be able to apply for loans to the Advances to Settlers Department. It is a matter of satisfaction to find settlers doing their best to make a home and a success of the district they live in. Now that a number of these people will shortly be in a position to finance there is every certainty that big strides will be made with dairying in the settlement next year, although a good few are going in for the industry this season. Settlers are confident that they will be able to make the industry a success, as it has been proved that the country will take grass well, especially clover in the open country. The usual other grasses do well oni bush country. Many of the settlersj state that when they first saw thej open country that they were ve jj doubtful and frightened that it was jfl too light a nature. They have found different, as clover surprisingly well. Potatoes and also do well and settlers have crops this season. With the former it is reported that are no signs of blight for so far^^J
