RACING.

The recent spell of fine weather has had the effect of drying up Te Kuiti course sufficiently to permit horses to be worked and the next few weeks should see the local horaea extended. The course is now being thoroughly rolled and gives promise of being in first-class order by the time it is require for racing on. The local contingent has been reinforce by the arrival of Master Lane, who is under the charge of trainer Ward. The same trainer has St. Wood in hand and expects to have another local horse very shortly. St. Wood's race at the Thames was a decent effort, and if he goes on satisfactorily in the meantime this equine fhould be in a position to show his best form on February Bth. He has been entered in the hurdle race as well as several of the flat races, but there will not be much opportunity for schooling prior to the meeting. The locally-owned Moira-ma-Cree filly has been given slow work for some time past and has been showing some improvement. She was given a brush over a Couple of furlongs for the first time the other morning and though no records were broken the filly shaped satisfactorily. The holding over of the declaration of weights for Te Kuiti meeting until after the Whangarei races is a wise course to pursue. Many of the horses at the North Auckland fixture will be engaged at Te Kuiti, and it is only right that the handicapper should have the most recent form to guide him in framing his adjustments.
