Tl.e third test match was commenced at Adelaide to-day. The English team was the same which soundly beat the Australians at Melbourne. The Australian team was altered by the inclusion of Matthews in place of Wiiitty. The Australian innings requires little description, It was a succession of disasters due to the magnificent bowling of Foster. Barnes also bowled well. Tha Australian batting was nerveless and lacking in dash, and forcing play might have made a lot of difference. The fielding was close and brilliant, Smith at the wickets being especially snip.rt. His stumning of Hill was a masterpiece. Ransford was compelled to retire hurt when he had made S. Scores:
Kelleway 1. Bardsley o, Ilordern 2. r >, Armstrong !W, Trumper 2t>, Hill 0, Minett 0, Matthews 5, Cotter 11, Carter 8, Ransford (not out) 8, extras 11, total 1 00.
Bowling analysis. Foster five wickets for 36 runs, Barnes threo for 71, Douglas one lor 7, and Hitch one for
Hobbs and Rhodes opened for England against the bowling of Cotter and Hordern. Half an hour's play produced 28. At 2!) Hordern changed ends, Kelleway relieving Cotter. Rhodes took 45 minutes to make 10. At 43 Matthews replaced Hordern and appealed confidently for leg-before against Hobbs, but the umpire ruled against him. Matthews was bowling a fine length and kept the batsmen quiet and Rhodes nearly returned the ball to him.
Hobbs and Rhodes played out time, the score standing at 49. Both batted soundly and confidently.
