A TE KUITI INDUSTRY

ICE FOR THE HOUSEHOLD.

To a district which is subject to such severe and extended periods of warm weather, from Christmas enwards, as Te Kuiti, the possibility of obtaining a regular supply of ice during that period, is of incalculable benefit to householders. Such a benefit may now be obtained by all the Te Kuiti residents, Mr E. C. Tassell. having now got his up-to-date plant in thorough working; order. The plant consists of a Tangye engine and a Humble freezer, capable of turning out half a ton of ice daily. Already the demand for ice reaches 4wt. a day, and as the water for the manufacture is obtained from the town mains the article can be thoroughly recommended. There is little doubt that in the near future the ice chest will be an article of common use in every household and ice producing plants will flourish in the land. An inspection of Mr Tassell's premises reveals splendid conveniences for keeping articles of food, such as meat and butter, in good condition during the hottest summer, and a visitor to the establishment must come away a confirmed believer in the general use of the ice chest. The cool chamber was filled with beef, mutton, and pork which had been on hand for periods ranging from a day to a week, and the excellent condition of the articles mentioned was a high tribute to the benefits of the cooling process. During last season MrTassell experienced Some difficutly with his plant, but this season he installed a new engine which has been working without the least hitch for a considerable time. Mr Tassell is prepared to supply ice daily up to the full capacity of his plant.
