RACING

The Te Kuiti Racing Club's meeting which is fixed for February Bth, promises to be a highly successful gathering. All the arrangements in connection with the meeting are now well forward. Despite the protracted spell of wet weather the contractor for the grandstand and outbuildings, Mr D. Fullerton, has made excellent progress, and the stand is almost complete. It will be quite an up-to-date structure with a seating capacity of about 500, and the course is so laid off that a spiendid view of the racing is afforded from start to finish. Few courses are so well provided by nature with pictruesque surroundings. A beautiful winding stream fringed with weeping willows flows down behind the grandstand, the intervening space being dotted with pleasant grassy plots and clumps of native hush. Always a beautiful picnic ground the locality merely required the trimming up and draining of the flat which constitutes the racecourse to make it ideal. The attractions to family parties should prove irrestible providing favourable weather conditions prevail and when the flags are flying for tin races it i=> to be hoped the surrounding green spaces will be occupied by happy picnickers.

The entries received by the club for the various events,, are -of a highly satisfactory nature. In the Cup there are thirteen nominations, and in the Hurdle race eighteen with a similar number in the Rohe Potae Stakes. The Farewell Handicap of four furlongs produced the excellent entry of thirty-two, while the other events are also well filled. Altogether a total of 170 entries has been received, a circumstance which must bring satisfaction to the committee, and thoroughly justifies the action of the members in framing a programme endowed with liberal prize money.
