AMERICAN BUTTER YIELDS.
It is well known that in the United States cows are frequently tested by the officers of the various experiment station**, and that since the system of official testing commenced there have been some remarkable yields. No less than 22 Jersey cows are recorded as having produced over 7001b of butter in a year, six of these having been added to the list in 1909. The last record is remarkable, it being the best made by a cow so young. This animal, known as Landseer's Pacific Pearl, owned by an Oregon farmer, was three years and four months old when the test commenced. Her produce of milk wag 90451b, containing 6591b of butterfat. It is the custom in America to base the yield of butter 011 the assumption that it contains 5 per cent, of fat, so that this cow is credited with 77518b of butter. The milk was extremely rich, containing over seven and a-quarter per cent, of fat, which is hte highest tieure recorded, while the best yield of butter-fat was made in November, the qauntity reaching 72.71b.
