OHURA COUNTY COUNCIL.
I The monthly meeting of the Ohura i County Council was held in the County ; Chambers, Mangaroa, on December 19th. Present—Crs Loveday (chair- ] man), Kelly, Currie, Sandison, HayI ward and Lyons.
CORRESPONDENCE. Notice was received from the UnderSecretary of the Public Works Department, that Mr W. S. Short had been appointed a commissioner to hold an inqiry as to the allocation of the cost of "a road and railway bridge at Matapuna. Resolved that the county solicitor appear for the council. Waikaka Road Loan.—The sum of £2153 2s 6d, amount of loan, has be_ui paid to the account of the Ohura County Council. Water Supply. —Mr L. G. P. Spcnce wrote offeriifg his services if the council required any work to be carried out in the council. —Received. Matiere Pound.—The Grown Lands Ranger has been instructed to report on the application of the council for a site for a public pound. Kakahi Bridge.—The approaches to this bridge will be started as soon as bridge is completed. Matiere-Mokau Road. Cr Sowry wrote for particulars of available thirds on sections having a frontage to this mad.
Maraekouhai Block. —Mr C. A. Von Blaramberg wrote requesting the Ohura County Council to have part of Maraekouhai block now in Whangamoraona Conty Council transferred to the Ohura County Council, as there was no direct connection by road with Whangamomona.—Agreed to.
Thirds on Waitewhena Raod.--The application of Mr Barnett to have his thirds removed from Waitewhena road held over for information from the Land Board.
Application of Mr Seernp to have his thirds expended on metalilng his approaches received and agreed to.
Roto Road Thirds. —Messrs Turner and Fleming applied to have their thirds expended on widening on this road.—Agreed to.
The application of Mr Barron for final payment on Turoto road contract was received. —Decided that the council has no responsibility. Application to Messrs Williams and Bruce to erect a 12 foot verandah opposite their store. —Resolved on the motion of Cr Lyons, seconded by Cr Goldfinch that permission be refused.
From the secretary of the Matiere Cemetery trustees, requesting a grant of £3O towards the improving of the grounds.—Granted. Mr Thompson, Mangaroa, requested council to fill in a drain between his workshop and road. —Held over. Mangaroa Pound.—Section 16, Mangaroa suburban, 2 acres, was granted as a site for public pound by the Land Board.
Waikaka Bridges.—Resolved that the resident engineer be requested to inform the council whether his department intend to proceed with the work on the Waikaka road bridges and culverts, the timber for which had been on the road ground some year".
Tongaporutu Road. Thirds available on this road to be spent on falling trees on this road. Expenditure of Thirds.- -Resolved that the overseer expend all thirds required for formation, Councillors to have power to take charge of urgent works/the work to be let at the overseer's estimate, adjacent settlers to have preference. mi n r _ ■ . -r> 1 -M„,.„,l K,, C~
The Main Road. Moved by Cr Loveday se-.vnded by Cr Snndiaon. — That the Public Works Department be requested to make the Uhura road passable from Mangaroa to Ongarue in all weathers.—Carried. Kururau Road. Moved by Crs Currie and Hayward that the Public Works Department be urged to open up the Kururau road for vehicular traffic. —Carried.
The Cemetery. -- Resolved that an effort be made to have the road to the cemetery repaired and the matter be left in the hands of the chairman and overseer.
The Rating Pob'.em,' —Resolved that all European occupiers of native land be enforced to pay rates.
Kopuha Road. —Resolved that the council advance the amount required to make a crossing on Kopuha road, the amount to be repaid out of thirds as they accrue. Waikaka Road Contract. —Resolved that Bramble and Co's. tender bs accepted. Rates in Arrear. Resolved that a final notice be sent to all ratepayers in arrear, payable on or before February 10th, 1912.
GENERAL. Resolved that the council as a body take a tour of the county so as to enable councillors to have a knowledge of the district. Contracts to be called for works on Hapurua, Waitangata, Mangakara roads and bridge on Hapurua road. Plans for a bridge over Seerup's creek have been forwarded to the department and one mile of road formation on the Tongaporutu road. Resolved that tenders for dog tax collector be called. Mr Denison, Mahorabora. waited on the council as to the diverting of thirds from the main road to erect bridge on a section. He urged that as the adjoining settlers had spent their thirds on the road it was only fair that these available thirds should be spent on the road as it was in a very bad state. He also wished to know the requirements of the council in regard to roading the township recently surveyed by Mr Wililams. Resolved that Mr Loft be informed that objection was made to his having a bridge and the business be left over until next meeting. Resolved that the Valuation Department have, the Ohura County revalued as soon as possible. Resolved that the council pay out 75 per cent, on all contracts passed by the county engineer.
