LAWN TENNIS.
Te Kuiti Club were called upon on Saturday last to defend their title to the ownership of the Howard Shield. The challengers were the Rangaroa Club from Taumarunui. Some interesting games were witnessed, the singles between Kelso and Rosa being a particularly good and exciting gama. The local ladies proved to be - a good deal <"00 strong for the challengers and won their matches fairly easily. The following are the results, Tn Kuiti players being mentioned first in each case:—■
Ladies' Singles. Miss Jordan 40 v Mrs Laird 27;~ Mr 3 C. Matthew 40 v. Miss Harper 12.
Men's Singles. Kelso 41 v. Ross 50; Bartieman 50 v. Edlinton 3G; Wallace 50 v. Raven 32; H arton 50 v. Laird 30. Ladies' Doubles. Mrs Matthew and Miss Jordan 50 v. Mrs Laird and Mrs Maher 26. Miss Graham and Miss Eiligon 50 v. Miss Meyenberg and Miss Harper 23.
Combined Doubles. Kelso and Miss Graham 50 v. Ross and Mrs Maher 40; Bartieman and Miss Ellison 50 v. Raven and Miss Meyenberg 42.
