THE RHODES SCHOLAR.
MR ALAN WALLACE. The Rhodes Scholarship Committee on Wednesday selected Alan Wallace, of Auckland, a3 Rhodes Scholar for 1912. Hi® selected candidate is a brother of Mr N. Wallace, accountant at the Bank of New Zealand, Te Kuiti. He has been prominent in cricketing circles for some time, and has done yeoman service for the Auckland University team both with bat and ball. Last year he represented Auckland in the cricket field. He is also a member of the North Shore Association Football Club. The new Rhodes scholar for New Zealand, is 20 -years of age, and the honour that he s>as won is the fitting outcome of a distinguished scholastic career. Mr Wallace was a pupil at the Ponsonby -public school, and from there he went to the Auckland Grammar School, -whence he matriculated and passed ■on to Auckland University College. JHa graduated B.A. last year, obtaining three senior scholarships at the University in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and chemistry. A bright career is ahead of this "young New Zealander and s host of the friends' of Mr N. Wallace in this district will unite in congratulating him upon the distinction, earned by his brother.
