From early morning a vast concourse moved to the scene of the Durbar and hy 10 o'clock the great amphitheatre was filled with :i brilliant assemblage representative of every caste and creed of India. The scene provided a dazzling kaleidoscopic picture of wealth and beauty, a feature of which were the jewels and rich apparel of the princes. The people's mound, a great, raised bank around the arena opposite the amphitheatre, w:is packed witli (iII,(KIP spectators, the mound resembling a distant bank of dowers. In the centre arena was a beautiful throne under a rich crimson and gold canopy wnile nra'vr (he amphitheatre was an equally beautiful pavilion where their Majesties received the homage of the pi ;!ice; : . Tiie arena was occupied by :'d, (1(1(1 representing each division of the military. The. display waa indeed the finest ever seen in India and was the most striking feature of the Durbar.
