MAORI ELECTIONS.
Peperie Eketone, one of the Government candidates Centisting the Wcstem Maori electorate, returned; from Waahi on Monday where he had been electioneering. On being quostionea as to his chances he said that ho fell confident. alahuta was adopt my a neutral position, a lact whic:i was very much in his favour. Tin re was. also a possibility of Tarapipi withdrawing from the contest, and i; so, he (Pepene) would have his support. He felt sure (hat iienare Kaih.uu's power was wanir.g. and. that, deieai. this time was almost co-lain. The elections [or the Mami Parliamentary seats will take place on the if'th inst. Out of the four scats ih.i re will only be three contested owing to the Hon. A. T. Ngata having been remrned unopposed Ha Pastern Maori electorate. There was quite a tipple- of excitement at, Waahi last week. There were fully P.dtlo natives- pr. sent, and the whole six candidates for the electorate were in attendance with the result that; a considerable amount of speechifying was indulged in. Or Pomare is 'reporled to be working very hard.
