"LET THERE BE LIGHT."

To the Editor. Sir, —I am glad to see the Borough Council has at last arrived at a decision with respect to a light for the town, and hope the much-needed requirement wil', be installed as soon as possible. There has been too much talk and too little result so far. I quite believe that everything the council does should be fully considered but surely there is no need to take several months over coming to a decision about a thing that is common to all places of any size. The light is wanted and light in itself is not a new discovery though the question has been dealt with as though the borough was going in for an experiment. The Kuiti is not always going to be the : same sized town that it is to-day, nor i is the same council going to remain lin office till Domesday. Mr Hardy said at the lats meeting that the : three lights under discussion were . equally good. From that it, seems to ' matter little what light is put in as long as value is given for the money ; expended. Te Kuiti can surely afford to pay for any of the lights as the cost S for one does not seem to be much more I than that of the other. Speaking | without prejudice it seems that the i taihoa spirit is getting a footing in j the council and the public interests j are likely to suffer in consequence. "Let there be light" and "Let it be I soon," is the earnest prayer of—l am, etc., I ~ RATEPAYER.
