TARANAKI LAND BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Tsra naki Land Board was held on 22nd inst. Present Messrs Heslop, M'Clug gage, Rattenbisry and Kennedy. In the absence of the Commissioner, Mr Heslop was voted to the chair. APPLICATION FOR LAND. Mr H. Egarr applied for sections 71, 75 and 7(3, Spotswood Settlement. —Approved and recommendation will be rnad< j to the Minister of Lands to grant his application to section 78 as an addition to his holding. J. H. Roche applied for a lease of Crown lands on the opposite side of the Ohura river to section 3, block 2, Heao. He waited on the board in support "f his application. Consideration deferred to next meeting with the object of inquiring as to exchanging it for other land.

F. McCarthy applied for temporary grazing of section 14. block 14, Opaku.—Resolved that a tenancy be granted at £2 per month. N. P. C. N. Christensen applied for license of section 22, block 4, Totoro. —Resolved that the license be issued.

Messrs Parker Bros, applied for a yearly tenancy of part section 13, block 9, Opaku.—Resolved to grant a year-to-year tenancy at a rental of Is per acre per annum.

F. Calgher applied for a lease of part of Whangamomona township reserve.—Resolved to grant a year-to-year lease upon payment of a rental of £5 rer annum. No green bush to be felled. EXEMPTION FROM RESIDENCE. J. Hunt, section 3, Block 2, Opaku. —Leave of absence during pleasure cf the board. Wm. Kane, section 4, block 14, Ohura.—Granted. RANGERS' REPORT. Mr Tolme, ranger, reported on the inspection of 14 holdings, comprising 7860 acrse. Improvements required £7944, effected £9192. Five selectors had not effected sufficient improvements. —The report was considered satisfactory. It was resolved that the Government be recommended to open up a track on the Kokupuiti road, that being the only means of access to the homested on section 11, Block 2, Heao. Mr Twiss reported on the application of W. A. Cleaver for a lease of part railway reserve fronting sections 1 and 2, block 2, Pouatu. —A year-to-year tenancy was granted in terms of ranger's report. Mr E. Tolme, Crown lands ranger, reported generally on Crown lands part Rangitoto-Tuhua 61, and on the application of F. Hurley to acquire 61H, section 1. —lt was resolved that the application of F. Hurley be not entertained. It was also refolved that the matter of access to 61G, section 1, and 610, section 1, be left in the hands of the commissioner, and that the hoard reommends that the Mokauiti road be connected to give access to these lands, which will be withheld from sale until the road is com-

pleted. Mr E. Tolme also reported on the application by the Kasaea Saleyards Company, Ltd, for section 19 block 2, Aria, as a site for saleyards—Resolved that the board cannot see its way to grant the request on account of the proximity of the land to the school.

He also wrote recommendirg suburban section 16, Mangaroa, as a pound site for the Ohura County Council. — Left in the hands of commissioner with full power to act. lie recommendd that action 3, block 9, Aria, be disposed of to the holder of section 2, block 9 —Resolved to recommend the Minister of Lands to dispose of it as suggested. He also reported on section 14, block 1, Aria. —Resolved that part section 14, block 1, Aria, containing 6 acres 1 rood 35 perches, be set apart as a school site and the ranger's report adopted regarding remainder.

After hearing the ranger's report, it was resolved that the application of A. G. Loft to acquire section 31 block 14, Ohura, be not ganted. With reference to the application of the Aria Co-operative Dairy Company for a site for factory manager's house, Mr Tolme submitted a scheme for the sub-divi-sion of part of township. Ranger's report adopted and section 2 of subdivision to be offered to the company. LAND BALLOTS. The Under-Secretary for Lands wrote suggesting that the board should decide when opening land for selection what sections should be balloted for among3t: —(a) Ordinary landless applicants; (b) married landless applicants with families; (c) landless applicants unsuccessful at former ballots.—lt was resolved that the suggestions he adopted and the matter left in the hands of the commissioner to arrange with regard to block to be opened. GENERAL.

The Under-Secretary for Lands advised the board that £7l 10s had been appropriated by Parliament for, payment of A. J. Whittaker's improvement on section 1, block 1, Pio Piotea W., the amount to be recouped when the land is 10 be again disposed of. Messrs Broadfoot, Finlay and Metcalfe applied on behalf of C. A. Manning to purchase the fee simple of part section 4, block 3, Ohura, the proposed site for Niho Niho Settlers' Hail.-■-•Resolved that Mr E. Tolme be appointed appraiser for the purpose of valuing the fee simple of the land.

LAND FOR RAILWAY PURPOSES. The Assistant Under-Secretary for the Public Works Department asked that the buard withhold transfer of sections 18 and 20, block 1, Mahoe, to Mr W. G. Messrs Bullock and Currie, solicitors, forwarded surrenders of seven university leases, surrenders to be on the acceptance of the offer oL' substituted leases. —Resolved that the surrenders be accepted in accordance with the previous letters of the board, and that Mr H. T. T.viss be appointed appraiser for the purpose of making valuation as prescribed in section 182 of the Land Act., 190 S. PETITION FOR RELIEF.

Mr John Maloney waited on the hoard in support of a petition for relief and payment for injury received while felling bush on section 12, block I*2, Mapara, which he had since, forfeited. Resolved that the board could take not action in the matter. EXTENSTION OF TIME.

Andrew Waters applied for extension of time to register transfer of section 9, block 2, Heao, to H. Johnson. —One month's extension granted. L. Bicheno, for Stuart anci Bicheno, applied for extension of time to effect improvements on section 1, block 11, Aria. —Resolved to grant six months' extension. Extension to time to January 1, 1912, to take up residence was granted in the cases of A. W. King, section 5, block 12, Mapara, and J. H. Brown, section 9, block 1, Tangitu. TRANSFERS. R. P. Coburn and E. Banfield to R. P. Coburn, section 8, block 5, Aria. — Approved; six months' leave of absence granted upon condition that he takes up residence at the end of that period. F. G. Thomas to H. G. Smith, sections 11 and 2, block 6, Aria—Approved. H. Paul and E. Holloway to E. Holloway, section 11, block 1, Aria. —Approved; transferee will be expected to comply with conditions of personal residence.

John Sheehy to E. Sheehy, section 3, block 11, Waro. —Consideration deferred.

L. F. B. Smith to H. J. Wilkinson, section 9, block 14, Waro.—This was an apolication for reconsideration of the refusal to grant the transfer. The parties waiterl on the board. Mr Kennedy gave notice of motion to rescind the previous resolutions at the next meeting of the board.

A. Tateson to L. N. Nielson, section 4, block 10, Mahoe.—Recommended.

S. Medcalf to J. G. Buchanan, sections 10 and 11, block 4, Ngatirimu. —Approved conditionally upon ranger's report being satisfactory.

SUB-LEASE. S. Williamson to W. Peterson, section 3, block 3, Aria.—Approved subject to sub-lessee taking up his personal residence. NON-RESIDENCE.
