THE WORLD OF SPORT.

RACING. The erection of the grandstand on Te Kuiti course is to be proceeded with immediately by the successful tenderer, Mr Fullerton, and with ordinary good fortune the club should have all the necessary arrangements for the carrying out of a successful meeting thoroughly completed before the, end of January. The recent boisterous weather has kept the ground soft, and the newly sown grass on the track is coming away nicely. During the week the course was visited by Messrs For syth (architect), Fullerton (builder), and members of the Works Committee for the purpose ,[of fixing the exact location of all the buildings. An ideal site has been chosen with ample room for all the necessary stable and paddock accommodation at the back of the stand in a beautful bend of the river. Provision is also made for a la>vn in front, while at the side the necessary space for the accommodation of the public and machines has been well attended to. The more one pees of the beautiful course the more one is impressed with its possibilities, not only for racing purposes, but as a recreation ground for this, and succeeding generations of Te Kuitians. During the week a further area of 25 acres of the racecourse was purchased outright from the native owner at a satisfactory price.

A couple of lucally owned horses are in steady work. Messrs Lusk's three-year-old Salvadan Moira-ma-cree filly is being put through the preliminary stages of her education, and is coming along nicely. Owing to the track not being fit to gallop on this highly-bred youngster has not been given any fast work as yet. She is a well-grown mare, and has the appearance of turning out useful. The hurdle horse, St. Wood, is also being ridden, and is showing considerable improvement in appearance. Mr A. McCardle's brood mares, purchased at the Auckland sales last year, have been again sent to Marble Arch this season.

The Messrs LuaU's mares, Golden Mavis and St. Edith, have each produced a filly foal this season , and visit Knocklayd. St. Edith's foal is a full sister to the brilliant St. Margaret, who has performed so well in Australia during the last couple of seasons.
