RACING.

The Canterbury Jockey Club's Metropolitan meeting was brought to a close on Saturday lust. The result of the S'ead Memorial Cup fully emphasised the fact that in Counterfeit Sir George Clifford possesses a remakably smart filly. A twelve lengths victory in the fast time of 2min 6sec went to Counterfeit's credit, with Miscount in second place. Los Angelos has been well advertised in certain quarters as being the best weight-for-age horse in the Dominion, and during the- C.J.C. meeting was purchased by Messrs Stead Bros, with a view to winning the Memorial Cup. He finished a poor last and quite failed to show his true form. It is extremely doubtful, however, whether at his best he could have troubled the winner.

Taking a line through Counterfeit'.*! performances it looks as though Masterpiece should turn out to be a top notcher, while Miscount, with his record of seconds in all the chief races, must be accounted a good, but unfortunate, animal.
