TE KUITI WATER PIPES.

PAYMENT FOR PirES SUSPENDED.

A matter of considerable importance to the borough came no for discussion at the council meeting on Monday evening when a letter from the Spiral and Lock Bar Steel Pipe Co., Ltd., was read. The company pointed out that it \v£3 some time since the contract for supply and delivery of water pipes had been completed and asking when they might expect payment of the balance due. Cr Sims said the account had been passed fur payment ana aomethnig should be on the minutes to show the reason the account had not been paid. It had been stated the pipes were not up to specifications and the matter was now being investigated by the Works Committee.

On the motion of Cr Finlay seconded by Cr Hardy, it was resolved that the letter be received and a reply delayed pending the result of investigations by the council.

On the motion of Cr Sims seconded by Cr Finlay, it was further resolved that the payment of the ac count passed be withheld pending receipt of the report by the Works Committee.

The clerk stated in reply .to enquiries by councillors that an amount of £2225 had been paid to the company and an account of £2542 had been passed but not yet paid. These items, amounted to 70 per cent, of the whole amount of the contract.
