MR WILSON IN EXPLANATION

When questions were being asked at the Otorobanga meeting of Mr 0. K. Wilson on Monday ovening. the. question of Mr Wilson having denied that he was one of a deputation who went to Wellington with the object ot diverting the Stratford-Oiigarue railway froni Ongarue. was asked. Mr Wilson, in reply, stated that at the beginning he had written to Mr Jennings asking that the fight; be conducted on fair and square lines, with the result that a compact was entered into that no personalities wouid be iridu ged in. He commenced nis campaign in that way. and intended to continue it to the end. lie adhered to his Matiere. statement, and said that he only went as a deputation on the matter of roads and bridges. After that matter was discussed lie withdrew from the Minister's room. He stated definitely that he had nothing to do with the deputation as regards the railway. Mr J. Wall, who was a member oC the deputation, mounted the platform and said that he was one of the deputation appointed in conjunction with Mesais Wilson and Elliott to go to Wellington on the matter of roads and bridges. The meeting, which appointed them was held at Pio Pio about the end of August and was presided over by Mr J. Borldia, Mayor of Te Kuiti. The meeting terminated shortly after the deputation was appointed, and Mr Boddie left for home. Mr Elliott mentioned the mutter of the Waitewhena railway when a resolution wa= carried asking a Royal Commission to be set up to inquire into the matter. There, were, no instructions for it to be dealt with by the deputation. Eventually the deputation arrived in Wellington and tin? members were received. After the completion of the matter as regards roads the deputation withdrew, and on getting to the door Mr Elliott said there was the question of the railway. He heard him mention this to the Minister, but Mr Wilson bad gone into the next room, and was not present. He contradicted emphatically the statement made by Mr Jennings that Mr Wilson was a member of the railway deputation.
