SPROUTED WHEAT.

- FEEDING SYSTEM PRACTISED

Mr W. V, Brown, of Western Australia, gives some interesting particulars a3 to the method he practised of feeding sprouted wheat:—"l think if farmers and dairymen knew the value of malted or sprouted wheat, they would find it a well-balanced ration for cows or working horses, say, equal to 61b dry wheat with oaten hay. I have feed this to working horses o;i the farm for some years, and also fattened sheep on both wheat and barley malted. To do the latter, I put about a bushel in an ordinary wheat bag, and immerse in a tub of water, taking care to have enough water to keep covered, and leave for 2i hours. Then take out and loosen well, and leave undisturbed for two days-—leas in mild weather and longer if frcsty--when all the grain will be found to be wellsprouted, and in a condition greatly relished by all stock, and thoroughly digestible. Bran and pollard at per ton is dearer than same weight wheat at 3s 3d per bushel, and I think the latter has perhaps 40 per cent, better fattening value, I feel sure any of these grains treated as above would be a splendid thing to prevent 'dry bible' if a little were given every week, the changing starch into sugar and diastase is so succulent,' 5
