Attention is iir;iwn to the alteration in the date of the Farmers' Auctioneering Company'h Te Kui.i Hale. This date has been altered from November Bth to November Itlth. The alteration has taken place on account of the Hamilton Show, which is on November Hth and 'Jth.
Mr J. 11. Graham will offer a number of farm lands for sale on Friday, November 10th, particulars of which will be found in our advertising columns.
A meeting of those interested in the King Country having its rights as regards the liquor question was held on Saturday night. The meeting was presided over bv M r G. P. Finlay. A strong committee was set up lo make the necessary representations.
On the motion of Cr Boddio at the Waitomo County Council meeting on Monday night it was resolved that it be a recommendation to the new council to purchase a steam roller.
The concert and dance in connection with the Catholic Church building fund promises to be a great succeßß, the tickets selling rapidly. With such a grand programme of really splendid items, which will appear again in next Saturday's issue, we anticipate an artistic treat for TcKuiti. The dance, too, is very well catered for. The tickets are 2s front seats and Is Gd second seats. A very energetic committee have the concert in hand, with Mrs Quirk as lion. sec.
Attention is drawn to an advertisement appearing in this issue notifying the fact that a meeting of ladies willing to act on Mr C. K. Wilson's election committee, will be held in Mr Mussen's office on Saturday, 21st ins 1.., at <1 p.m.
Settlers from the Tangitu block report that the road from Waimiha to the Tangitu settlement is in almost impassable state. As instance of its condition, on Sunday last a settler, who was bringing cattle into the block took two days to do eight miles. The settler in question was bringing nino head of cattle to his farm, and ats the result of bog holes and other difficulties one of the nine was unable to survive the trip.
Mr C. K. Wilson addressed thu electors at Mahoenoi on Saturday last. The meeting was a representative one, a large number o'" settlers being present. Mr Wilson received a good hearing and at the conclusion of the meeting a vote of thanks was unanimously carried.
Or. behalf of the residents of Mangaroa, Mr (J. 0. Stevenson last week presented Miss L. Skelton with an inscribed silver afternoon tea service and purse, of sovereigns in recognition of her services as postmistress.
The Railway Department is instituting inspectorial service, partly uniformed, in connection with passenger trains. Eight specially picked men, promoted from the service as guards, have been appointed for the North Island, and the same number will probably be appointed for the South Island.
Major-General Godley stated in an interview that training under tlu new defence scheme would start at the end of this month. There would bo a force of "12,01)0 i" 'ha Dominion, while the strength would be brought up to .'id,ooo in four years. Encampments would lie held between Christmas and the end of May. but the. sites and definite dates were not yet fixed.
A fine specimen of a milking cow, a purebred Ilolstein (says the Standard) ia in the possession of Mr F. Greer, of Fizherbert. The cow is giving present seven gallons of milk per day, the total quantity at the end of the week producing over 1201 b3 of butter. During last season the same cow averaged KijUhs of butter per week fur 10 weeks. Mr Greer just refused recently an oiTer of .£2O for the animal.
