TAUMARUNUI SEAT.

MR WILSON AT PAEMAKO

Mr C. K. Wilson, the approved Opposition candidate, addressed the electors of this district on October sth. Mr O'Dwyer, who kindly acted ag chairman, opened the proceeding at a quarter to eight, the schoolroom being well filled, settlers arriving from all parts of the district, some ladies walking over three miles in spite of .the dull evening, evidently expecting something unusual. Their expectations were.gratified by Mr Wilson's able and Jucid speech. The speaker dealt with various items concerning the country, among which may be mentioned laws, administration, railways, land settlement, native lands and roads, the last two being dealt with in a very masterly manner. The would-be member evidently has a good grasp of the situation. He spoke in a most emphatic and convincing manner and held the interest of his hearers throughout as was evidenced by the fact that not a single interjection was heard during the speech. Such willingness to listen quietly at such meetings is not often shown, and it says much for the abiilty of the speaker and the natural love of "give him a chance" of the audience. A hearty vote of thanks to the speaker was carried, and the same compliment, on the motion of the speaker, was accorded to the chairman. At the conclusion of the meeting a strong committee was formed.—Own Correspondent.

Mr C. K. Wilson had a good meeting on Monday night at Managotaki, and a vote of thanks and confidence was carried unanimously.
