The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Ageency Co., Ltd., report:— On the 2nd inst., we held a clearing sale at Hautapu on account of Mr B. McGechie. There was a very large attendance and brisk competition. Prices—Springing heifers .£5 15s to £7 2s Gd, empty heifers .£3 15s, cows and calves £5 7 6d, cows in fresh condition £4 6s, bulls £2 os to £4 ss, sow and litter £5, empty sows £2 6s, store pigs 30s to 31s 6d, 2 year fillies £ll 15s to £2l Is, draught geldings £4O to £45, farm horses £25 to £3l, buggy horse £l7 10s, waggon £29, single buggy £l7, dray £l4 10s, d.f. plough £ll 10s, discs £ll. drill £l6, reaper and binder £ls 10s, mower £9, milk cans 26s to 313 6d, harness, etc., at usual rates. At Pirongia on Wednesday we submitted 238 head of cattle, which all sold at most satisfactory prices. Eighteen months to 2 year steers made £42, year empty heifers £3 15s to £4 ss, yearling heifers, Jersey cross £3, empty cows £3 16s to £4 ss, yearling steers £2 14s to £2 17s 6d, mixed yearlings £2 7s to £2 10s, dairy cows in milk, on account of Mr Closey £7 2s 6d to £ll, dairy cows close to profit from other vendors £8 to £7 2s 6d,
springing heifers £6 15s to £S 10s, more backward heifers £4 15s o£s ss, 15 months cattle £3 Is to £3 8s 6d, sow and litter 455, store pigs 17s to 18s 6d, cobs and harness horses £5 to £l2, a mixed line of ewes and iambs and woolly hoggets 14s 3d. The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report: — At Ohaupo on October 3rd, we had a yarding of 44S sheep and 778 head of cattle. Competition was good for all classes, and hardly a pen of stock was passed at auction. Fat and forward wethers made 19s 3d, ewe hoggets, broken fleecer 12s 9d to 15s, cull hoggets lis, ewes with 100 to 150 per cent, of forward lambs 24s 6d to 26s 6d, others with 70 per cent. lambs 18s sd, best dairy heifers £7 to £lO 2s Gd, others £5 to £6 ss, fresh 3 year steers £7 10s to £7 3 4s, store 2J year steers £5 ss, same age Jersey cross £3 19s, empty 2 year heifers £3 15s to £5 200 of this class sold; good quality yearling steers £3 to £3 7s, smaller sorts £2 12s 6d to £2 37s 6d, choice yearling heifers £2 18s to £3 2s Gd. At the Hamilton yards on October sth, we had a full yarding, every pen and yard being occupied. The total entry was 2540 sheep, 60 pigs, 264 fat cattb, 288 mixed store cattle, and 223 dairy cows and heifers. Pigs were at extreme prices and several that gave entries for this sale and did not turn up may have missed their opportunity. Weaners made 35s to 38s, slips 23s to 265, porkers 40s, sows £3. Sheep of all classes were dull of sale under the hammer, but we eventually sold 19G2 of the entry. Shorn fat wethers sold from 18s 6d to 20s, fat wethers in wool 20s 9d to 24s 3d, fat wethers 16s to 19s 6d, fat hoggets in wool 16s 6d, well woolled choice ewe hoggets 37s 9d, smaller ewe hoggets 14s, mixed hoggets in wool 13s 6cl to 3 ss. The yarding of fat cattle was keenly competed for, but prices were slightlylower than our sale of three weeks ago. Steers made from £lO to £l3 lbs — the latter being obtained for nine extra prime steers from Pegler Bros, of Karioi, Raglan; a few pens of unfinished steers £8 10s to £9 12s, fat cows £7 to £8 325, barely tollable cows £4 10s to £5 14s, bulls and stags £5 10s to £7 ss, 3 year store steers £5 18s, store cows £3 30s to £4, choice 2 year heifers £4 5s to £5, choice yearling heifers £2 ISs to £3 12s, smaller. yearlings £2 2a to £2 3 os. The majority of the dairy cows and heifers were backward in condition, and as the weather of late—hot days and frosty nights—has not been conductive to growth, competition was less keen; at the same time good sorts were required and made from £7 30s to £3O, medium sorts £5 35s to £6 355, smaller and backward £4 5s to £5
At Morrinsville on October 6th, we had a yarding of 2997 sheep, and 70S head of cattle. There was fairly gond competition right through. Pat wethers in wool made 21s to 225, fat shorn wethers 18s, fat ewes in wool 16s to 16s 9d, fat shorn ewes 13s 3d, fat and forward shorn wethers 14s 2d to 14s 4d, 1000 ewes with lambs, sold in lots, ISs 2d to 19s, really good woolly hoggets 16s Sd to 17s 7d, others lis 9d to 15s 3d, cull hoggets 7s, well fattened steers £ll 10s, lighter weights "£7 8s to £9 17s Gd, small fat heifers £6 to £6 10s, fat cows £6 to £7, fresh two year steers £5 15s, two year empty heifers £4 5s to £4 19s, store cows £3 7s 6d to £3 15s, yearling steers £3 to £3 ss, choice dairy heifers £7 10s to £lO, out of condition heifers £4 15s to £5 10s, a few unbroken light draught horses £lO to £l9, medium draught horse £29 10s, pigs, sundries, furniture, etc., at usual rates.
