TARANAKI LAND BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly mee ing of the Taranaki Land Board was held on 19th inst., the Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr W. Armstrong) in the chair. There were also presentMessrs Heslop, M'Cluggage, and Kennedy. An apology was received from Mr Rattenbury. APPLICATIONS FOR LAND. The following applications fur land were received since last meeting:— Part section 3, block 10, Aria,so acrs, J. Phillips; part section 16, block , Opaku, 1171 acres, N. Nelson.—lt was resolved that the application of J. Phillips be recommended for approval under section 129 of the Land Act, 1908, and that the application of N. Nelson be approved, but that the board could not reduce the valuation for improvements, unless the same be re-offered to public competition. —W. G. Fargie asked that section 22, block 1, Mahoe, reserved for gravel, be added to his holding.—lt was resolved to obtain the ranger's report. TRANSFERS. N. B. Fryday to A. Castle, section 7, block 13. Plans of 22 sections in blocks 1, 2, 3, and 4, Rangi survey district, and block 11 Tangitu, recently surveyed by Mr W. Kensington, district surveyor, were laid on the table: Resolved that the prices as submitted be adopted, and the land offered for sale or selection under part 3 of the Land Act, 1908, the ballot to be held at Taumarunui.—Plans of 11 sections in blocks 1 and 3, Omara, and block 8, Taurakawa, recently surveyed by Mr D. M. Wilson, district surveyor, were laid on the table: Resolved that the prices as submitted be adopted, and the land offered for sale or selection under part 3 of the Land Act, 1908, the ballot to be held at Stratford—Plans of nine sections in block 16, Taurakawa, block 4, Kapara, and block 1. Tua, surveyed by Mr Wm. Laing. district surveyor, were laid on the table: Resolved that the land be offered for sale or selection under part 3 of the Land Act, 1908, at prices to b°e agreed upon between Commissioner and the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Wellington, after the land has been valued by the surveyor and Mr Lundins, Crown lands rangre, ballot to beheld at Stratford. REMISSION OF RENT, The Under-Secretary for Lands wrote stating that the matter of remission of rent on transfer of sections under section 127 of the Land Act, 1908, is a matter for the Land Board to decide: Resolved that upon the disposal of a half interest one-half of the rent conceded be demanded. APLPICATION FOR LEASES. The board considered the application of K. A. Johansf?n and D. Finnigan for Crown lands in block 6, Aria:

Chief Surveyor will take the necssary stops to have a survey made as soon as possible, so that the land may be offered at the earliest opportunity in terms of resolution of June 21, 1910. —R. Roth, section 5, block 15, Ohura, applied for part of the proposed forest reserve adjoining his section: Resolved that the land be disposed of to the applicant for O.R.P. under section 128 of the Land Act, 1908, at £5 per acre.—J. McDonald renewed his application for part of section 4, block 16, Ohura: Resolved that the land be disposed of to the applicant for O.R.P. under section 128 of the Land Act, 1908, at £2 per acre, applicant to deposit survey fee. —W. A. McCutchan applied for section 21, block 15, Pouatu, the closed part of Kohuratahi road: Approved. —D. Markham applied for a renewal of his lease of sections 1-12, block 9, Opunake Town, for seven years: Deferred for ranger's report.—F. Le Mon applied for a lease of section 19, block 2, Aria: Declined. —W. Beard applied for part section 7, block 15, Ohura, to give frontage and building site: Application recommended under section 129 of the Land Act, 1908, at ft price of £2 per acre, the area to be defined by the ranger. GENERAL.

G. H. Gifkins waited on the board with reference to non-residence on section 5, block 9, Kapara: Resolved that under the circumstances leave of absence be granted during the pleasure of the board.—Mr Hatrick waited on the board with Mr Grey Messrs Wilson and Grey) with regard to section 3, block 15, Ohura: Resolved that section be offered to public auction for cash at a total upset price of £I3BB 10s. including improvements. —Ohura County Council applied to have section 12, block 9, Town of Mangaroa, vested in them as a site for a public pound: Decided that board cannot entertain application but that the ranger (Mr Toime) will co-operate in selecting site.—J. O'Connor and W. Ireland applied to take timber from section 13, block 1, Piopiotea West: Goodson Bros., selectors of section 12, applied for the section to be added to their holding: Declined.— Under-Secretary for Lands wrote stating the opinion of the Crown Law Officers re renewal of leases under the Taranaki Scholarships Endow ment Act, 1910: Acknowledged.— A plan of the deviation of the Mangaowata road in blocks 9 and 10, Pouatu, was laid on the table: Titles to be amended accordingy.—H. F. Munro applied for the freehold of section 35, block 11, Opunake: Approved.— W. E. Davies wrote stating he had taken over the tenancy of sections 7, 8 and 9 of Village of Puniwhakau, from K. Maxwell: Approved. RANGERS' REPORTS.

H. T. Twiss, Crown lands ranger, reported on the application of Gaustad Bros, to surrender section 44, block 11, Waitara: Applicants must surrender before the department will go to the expense of ascertaining the value of improvements.—Mr Twiss reported on the application of J. Hutchins for section 1, block 13, Mimi, and for part of section 5 block Waro: Decided to inform the applicant that the application for section 1 was declined, but that the board will grant a year to year lease at £1 per annum. The application for part section 5 be recommended for application under section 129 of the Land Act, 1908. at a rental upon a capital value of £1 per annum.—Mr Twiss also reported on the application of H. Jury for part section 5, block 13, Waro: Report adopted.—Mr E. Tolme. reported on the application of L. Lloyd for a bridge over a stream to give access to section F>, block 8, Waro: Application refused. Mr Tolme akio submitted the rental for temporary tenancy of part section 28. block 2, Ohura. applied for by C. J. Ryan: Ranger to report on the quantity of milling timber on the section and also on section 12, block 3, adjoining.— E. A. Meredith, assistant ranger, reported on the application of R. Cleaver for a extension of time to reside with his wife and family: If not resident with wife and family on the section by December 31st, 1911, his interest will be forfeited, —E, Tolme, reported having resumed possession of section 1, block 2, Piopiotea West. EXTENSION OF TIME.

R. F. Beautrais applied for further extension of time till March, 1912, for his wife and family to reside on section 3, block 2, Mapara: Resolved that the action of the commissioner be confirmed, and that the applicant be informed that if he is not resident on the section by December 31st, 1911, his interest will be absolutely forfeited.—E. A. Meredith reported on the non-residence of A. W. King, section 5, block 2, Mapara.--A. W. King applied for extension of lime to reside :Reso!ved that the extension asked for be granted.
