Readers are requested not to forget the land sale at Graham's auction mart on Thursday at 2.30 u.m., of that most central section in at the corner of Sheridan and Taupiri street. Black-Smith is a somewhat unusual combination of names, but it is peculiarly appropriate when the work done is that of a blacksmith. Mr W. J. Black is showing some very fine examples of horse shoes made by Mr R. Smith, in Mr McCorkindale's window, Rora street, just now. There are over 30 specimens, ranging from the lightest of shoes for a racer, to the heaviest shoe worn by a Clydesdale. The work has been excellently done and is well worth examination by any user of horse flesh. The Aria dairy factory opens on September 25th and with the country looking so well after the rains the prospects for next season are very promising. The directors have received some good offers for their output, and from Sod to 9d per lb is assured for butter fat. In the vital statistics issued for 1910 a table showing the mortality from certain causes of death in each of the registration districts of the Dominion is published. There were two deaths in the Te Kuiti district from bronchitis and in the Taumarunui districts there was one death from whooping cough, one from phthisis, and seven from pneumonia. Congregational Church are busy preparing for a great winter garden fete which it is intended to hold on October . 3rd and 4th. A play for g'rls, en- [ titled "Flower Fairies," will be the leading feature, and half a dozen tableaux, participaced in by the adult members of the church, will also prove interesting. Solos, quartettes, and choruses, taken part in by local friend 3, will be given and a very popular entertainment should be the result of the efforts now being put forth.
Tenders are being invited by the Pio Pio Town Hall Co. for the carting of timber and materials. Particulars are given in our advertising columns. Mr J. N. McLean, of Korotua, advertises sittings of hi 3 world-famous White Leghorn and Indian Runner eggs, and a3 he keeps only the very best breeds it will pay any poultryman to write for his catalogue. Better spend 7s 6d on a guaranteed strain than 2s 6d on mongrels. The adjourned meeting of the proposed Horticultural Society will be held in the Waitomo County office on Saturday evening next. It is hoped that a large number will attend. Such a society would undoubtedly do a lot of szood in the way of improving gardens and causing friendly rivalay. The meeting will be held at 7.30, Ladi=3 are particularly requested to attend.
By advertisement it is announced that the bachelors of Te Kuiti will play Te Kuiti Football Club on Saturday next. It is expected that an exciting game will eventuate. The kick-off will take place at 3 p.m. As the proceeds of this match are to be devoted to the funds of the Maniapoto Rubpy Union, it is hoped that a large number ■will be present
