COUNTRY NEWS.
Kiritehere-Moeatoa. It is reported that Constable Wade, of Kawhia, is searching in this district for the escaped prisoner, Pawelka. One, however, may ta);o the report of his being in the district with a grain of salt. Mr Kerr, cattle dealer, is making purchases of young stock in the Marakopa district. The roads a3 a result of the dry weather, are in splendid condition for travelling upon, being firm and elastic, without that tenacious feel peculiar to the result of rain. It is reported that settlers and storekeepers of Marakopa have come to an agreement relative to shipping conveniences. The details at time of writing are meagre. Settlers and others suffer greatly from the want of direct telephonic communication with Te Kuiti. And a direct telephone line via Kiritehere and Mairoa is what is required.
