Mr Graham seil3 on Saturday at the Mart, Taupiri street, a lot of furniture, details of which appear in our advertising columns, also dray, gig, horse, etc. The second annual hall under the auspices of Te Kuiti Bowling Club will be held in the Town Hall on Friday, September 29th. Strong working committees have been formed and no efforts will be spared to make the function a success. Tickets are obtainable from members of the committee. Mr Mora Waitomo County Clerk has received.vv'ord that the Mairoa loan of £16,800 has been finally approved. This loan carries a £1 for £1 subsidy. A letter on the lighting question from Mr D. J. Young appears in this issue. Through pressure on our space this letter was unavoidably held over from last iE'sue. Only one point of rain had fallen up to 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning for the month of September but in the next 24 hours to 9 a.m. to-day, 1.19 fell ■—making one and one-fifth inches for the month.
Dr Paxton has kindly consented to give a series of lectures on "First Aid" to Boy Scouts and ether boys who are interested in the subject. As this subject is a most usefal one for boys to 'learn it is hoped that they will roll up in good numbers. The lectures will be given in the Anglican Church Hall, and the first one will be given on Thursday evening, 14th inst. Buyers' are given a final reminder of that clearing sale on behalf of Mr Carroll on Thursday, 14th inst.. at 2 p.m. sharp at his residence, Rimu street. Mr J. R. Graham who conducts the sale, states that this is an exceptionally nice lot and his instructions are to clear every line. Good 3 will be on view form 12 o'clock on day of sale'. The followirg Thursday there will'be a land sale at the Mart, all particulars in advertisement. Messrs Steel, Pine and Early, representing settlers in the Pukeruhe road district, waited on Mr W. T. Jennings, M.P., on Saturday asking bim to support their request for a £1 for £1 subsidy on the £IOOO loan raised. Mr Jennings promised he •would do his best and said they might almost surely rely upon getting the grant.
