BACKELORS' BALL.

On Friday night Last what, was possibly the best ball yet hold in To Knit: wag snivel) by the bachelors of this town and neighbourhood. The Alexandra Skating Kink was beautifully decorated for the occasion with greenery of all kinds, hunting and Chinese lanterns, and looked very pretty indeed. A large marquee was used as a sitting-out room and was beautifully decorated with ferns, etc.. It is estimated that there were three hundred guests present, and the large hall, which was comfortably tilled from a dancer's point of view, looked gay indeed. The costumes worn by the ladies were particular!;,' attractive. The music supplied by llaniey's Orchestra from Palmerston North as thoroughly appreciated, and last, but not least, the lloor was in perfect order. The committee worked indefatigahiy in the interests of their guests and are to bo. heartily congratulated upon tlie energetic and thorough manner in which they carried out thelarge amount of work necessary ' a make the evening the huge success it proved to be. The catering was left in the hands of iU r .1. T. Thomson, of Te Kuiti, who carried out his duties faithfully and well. The bachelors are to'be congratulated upon the success of this their iirst ball in Te Kuiti. and hopes have been impressed that the function may become an annual one. The joint secretaries Messrs Cochrane and St. Hi)!, upon whose shoulders the brunt of the work. fell, are to be particularly congratulated upon the success of their eiforts, and it must have been gratifying to them to see everything go off with such a swing and everyone looking so supremely happy.
