Otorohanga

A most successful and enjoyable ball was given on Friday last by some of the local ladies to celebrate the Coronation year of our most gracious Majesty King George V. About 65. couples took part in the Grand March. The music was supplied by Lloyd's Band, and gave every satisfaction. The hall had been prettily decorated with flags, greenery, Chinese lanterns, drapings of red,-white and blue. One side of the stage a large mirror, draped with red as placed, and on the other a large picture of his Majesty. A large mirror at the end of the hall gave a very pretty picture of all the dancers as they whirled round and round. The stage was fitted up as a drawing room for the benefit of the non - dancers. The M.C's., doorkeepers and committee all wore rosettes of red, white and blue. After the first half of the programme had been gone through the guests adjourned to a large marquee where a most sumptuous supper had been provided by the ladies. Among the dresses worn was noticed Mrs Furbur, black silk and jet trimmings; Mrs Holden, soft black crepon trimmed with jet and tulle: Mrs Whyte, white silk; Mrs Hosking, black silk; Mrs T. Hosking. soft cream voile trimmed with silk insertion studded with pearls; Mrs Colhoun, black satin; Mrs Spencer, white lace dress over gold; Mrs Drummond, pretty white embroidered muslin; Mrs Young, white embroidered muslin robe; Mrs Morrissey, black; Mrs Watkin, cream taffeta; Mrs Worthington, black with gold trimmings; Mrs Forster, white muslin; Mrs Morley, black silk; Miss Hosking, black silk trimmed with white net; Miss Vieary, cream taffeta trimmed with bands of silk insertion; Mrs Ormsby, white embroidered muslin; Miss Caulier, pink silk crinon; Mrs Seymour, white musiln; Mrs McDiarmid, white silk; Mrs Bailey, white muslin; Miss Furber, pale blue silk musiln; Mrs Johnson, black net; Miss Colhoun. white olienne trimmed with spangled net; Miss L. Johnson, cream; Mrs Kidson, white muslin; Mr 3 Elliott, pale blue poplin trimmed with pale pink and gold insertion; Miss Johnson, cream lace; Miss Cater, [ white silk; Miss Joyce, cream; Miss Hunter, cream trimmed with panels of cream silk insertion ; Miss Smith, sage green silk; Miss Reynolds, cream; Miss Reardon, white muslin. After the programme had been gone through with the encores, everyone joined in singing the National Anthem, after which the gentlemen gave three ringing cheers for the ladies' committee.
