The Farmers' Co-operative Company report: —
At Hikutaia on Monday August 21 we had a yarding of 293 cattle, S3 sheep and a few horses, sundries, etc, good competition for everything and al! sold. Fat steers £8 J2s (id to £ll 2s 6d, fat cows £5 5s to £7 sa, rising 3 year store steers £5, 2 and 2\ year store steers £4 12s (id, 12 to 18 month steers £3 to £3 17s 6d, empty H to 2 year heifers £3 10a to £3 15s, calves £2 5s to £2 16s, best dairy cows £6 to £7 15s, others £4 10s to £5 10s, pigs 13s, horse, spring cart and harness £l6 10s.
At Ohaupo on Tuesday, 22nd inst., we yarded 300 cattle. There was a good demand. Prices 2 and 2A year steers £4 19s 6d, IS month steers £3 12s, choice yearling steers £3 5s to £3 10s, yearling heifers £2 2s, dairy cows £6 to £S, springing heifers £5 ss, backward in calf heifers £3 16s to £4 lis.
At Hamilton on 24th inst. W3 had an entry of 158 pigs, 103 sheep, 87 fat cattle, 276 store cattle, and 267 dairy heifers and cows, and a lot of sundries, implements and horses Pigs were in keen demand. Prices: Slips 16s to 30s 6d, weaners 10s to 14s, fat wethers 16s to 20s, fat hoggets 15s 2d, fat ewes 13s 9d, forward wethers 14s to 16s, hoggets in forward condition lis 9d and 12s, 6000 store hoggets and 150 empty ewes svere not required, fat seers £8 8s to £ll 2s 6d, fat cows and heifers £5 15s to £7 15s, choice 2 year empty heifers £3 15s to £4 Is, mixed calves and yearlings 3Ss to 455, 18 month steers up to £4 2s, choice yearling steers £2 13s to £2 19s, herd of dairy cows all very forward in calf, made from £6 10s to £9 10s, a very large entry of dairy heifers were small, backward and in poor condition generally—good sorts well grown and forward made from £6 15s to £9, others £4 10s to £5 ss, seven aged draught horses made from £5 to £24, d.f. plough £ls 10s. Newton King reports:—
At my usual fortnightly cattle sale at Stratford on the 22nd inst., there was a fair yarding with good attendance of buyers. Young cattle were in good demand and sold readily. Mixed yearlings 33s to 42s Gd, poor conditioned yearlings 26s 6d, yearling heifers 34s to £2 lis, yearling steers 31s to £2 4s 6d, 2 year heifers £3 5s to £ 18s 6d, springing heifers £4, store cows £3 2s to £3 12s 6d, forward cows £3 16s to £4, fat cows £4 17s to £5 7s, springing cows £5 ss, bulls 34s to £2.
On the same day my Stratford dairy yards were well filled with springing heifers and dairy cows, which met with a good market. A very choice line was yarded by Mr Geo. Lorimar. which averaged £9 9s, one of the cows reaching £l9 10s, springing heifers close up made £6 to £7 17s Gd, later £4 to £5 15s, dairj cows close up £6 to £l9 10s, later £4 10s to £5 15s, very late £3 7s 66 tu £4 ss. At Stony River on Wednesday 23rd inst., there was a good yarding mostly of young stock, price for which were slightly in advance of previous sale. Some choice fat cows were disposed of at from £5 12s 6d to £7 15s, mixed yearlings made 28s 6d to £2 4s 6d, yearling steers £2 to £2 10s 6d, yearling heifers £ 2 5s to £2 16s, 2 year heifers £3 Ss 6d, empty heifers £3 7s to £3 17s, store cows 30s to £3 12s 6d, forward cows £3 17s to £4, dairy cows £5 5s to £7. bulls £3 10s to £6, store pigs 163, weaners 6s 6d.
