NIGHT-SOIL DEPOT.

To The Editor. Sir, -Am sorry to trouble again on the abovs, but would like to make a few remarks on Mr Hardy's letter. He says so doubt Dr Makgill knew his business when he recommended the site. Was Dr Makgill informed when he visited the ground that it was subject to floods? I say not. Assuming that he was, and still decided it was a suitable site, then all I can say is that, with all his experience, he does not know his business, Mr Hardy iiotwithstanding. I have not Mr Hardy's I Italian experience for building up low ground with night-soil. When that delightful experience is carried out I do not think it will bother any of us. I am more interested in this matter than Mr Hardy, as in common with others we have to use the water. Besides 1 do not see why he should go out of his way and sneer at my humble eoffrts to stick up for what I consider right. I distinctly deny casting covert reflections on any member of the Council as I am personally known to all of them. I admire and respect a man who does his duty. lam sure no member of the Council bear me any ill-will for my action in this matter, as I am only fighting for what I think is right, without prejudice. Am sorry my "lugubrious jeremiad" did not please, but we are not all gifted with Mr Hardy's eloquence. What I say I mean, and do not intend to go back on it. Thanking you for your valuable space.—l am, etc., J. F. WA.LSH.
