King Country Chronicle Wednesday, August 23, 1911. SETTLERS' GRIEVANCES.

The important, gathering of settlers to be hold at I'io I'io on Saturday will deal with (lie metalling of tho AwakinoTo Kuiti main road ami other matters of interest to the district.. The announcement; in our last, issue that the Public Works Department is calling for tenders for quarrying and crushing 300n cubic yards of metal for the road, is however, some indication that, the work is to be ;c-oceeded with, and what is new wantni from Saturday's meet ing is resolution emphasising the urgency of the work, so that it may be completed before another sum tuor comes to an end. Tho progress with thi:- i mportant work haß been absurdly slow in the past, and though it has admittedly been good work that hay been done, that is not enough. The gap of six miles from the end of the metal to I'io Pio should be made up t Inn next six months. Othermatters to be dealt with at the. coming meeting are- the question of a cross-country branch line, waggon freights, and a cottage hospital. An interesting discussion may be anticipated on all the various matters before the meeting, and that good results will befall we have every confidence.
