WAITOMO COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Waitomo County Council was held on Monday evening. There wore present: Crs A. Srboles (Eh;) irman ), W. Johnstone. R. Gregg, K. Were, P. o'lHvycr, P. Smyth, .E Porldie, ami W. ,1. lloiTnian.

Messrs Earl, Kent, and Howardwrote on behalf of Messrs Kuidane others objecting to the Council Inking any further steps in the raising of a loan (presumably) XenUO for e.criain nietaliing in the Aria Special Ratine district unless all the proceedings ;n connection with the same be commenced over again,--MrHine wrote on Dehalf of Messrs P. Vicary and M. Kelly objecting similarly to a loan o ! ' X2tHi(l to metal and widen the Caves road.

Mr J. K. Daly wrote, as the time is now approaching when the Council will be asking for money for ro:i<l won; in his district, he would like to ask them (o remember the Mirohina io Mangotaki and .Lower Managotaki rottci. There was no road so neglected in the whole of the King Country, only one conlract: of ten chain of widening having been done in ten year;:. There were now over twenty miles of sixfoot tracks in the district.--The Clerk was authorised to reply that the r-viv, of £4OO had been applied for the Mirohuia road, and XSOO for the Managotaki road. K. A. and M. L. Wilson wrote referring to the "thirds" which had accrued on their sections- 7A and SA. Block VTII, Orahiri Survey District. They slated that there were very bad swamps on the road lending into their sections, and although the swamp had been drained and formed, it became very bad in the. winter and required metalling. If the Council would approve, of devoting these "thirds" to this purpose, thty would subsidise SA for A'l.--Proposed by the Chairman and seconded by Cr Huffman that "thirds" be spent, as requested. Mr E. H. Hardy applied for the Council's permission to authorise him to enter upon the block of land known as Kangitofo-Tuhua for the purpose of surveying a graded road from the railway station at Foraotarae ti. the crown of the tunnel range to join a road recently surveyed from the latter point southwards. - Permission granted. Proposed by Cr Were said seconded by Cr Buddie: "That, a generai rale of Id in the A be struck on the capital value of ail ratable properly within the Te Kuiti, Waitomo, Otoiohanga and Te Ban a Moa ridings, and a general rate of Jd in the A be struck on (he capital value of all ratable property within the Mairoa. Hangitiki. Aria, and Faemako ridings as provided in section 117 of the Counties Act, 1908."

Cr Gregg moved as an amendment, and Or Hoffman seconded: "That a general rate of ?d bo struck on the capital value of all ratable properly within (he Waitomo (bounty as provided in .section 117 of the Counties Act, lOOS." The amendment was carried. It was resolved that (be Clerk call a special meeting to deal with loans. Engineer'? Report. Specifications for metalling with the Honikiwi loan and subsidy have been approved, and I propose calling for tenders at. once so as to enable the contractor io gel his plant on the ground and begin work as soon ns the road is sufficiently dry. Specifications for widening a portion of the Hauturu road near To Ran a Mors have also been approved, and tenders are now being called ier the work. The contractor for i.he Maire road has made good progress and should finish about the end of the month. There was a large slip on the Pungarohu road which 1 had cleared and a washout on the same road has. been repaired.
