A distressing' case of loss occurred on Thursday last in the Rangitoto No. 1 Settlement, when Mr H. Thomas, bis wife and his young family were burnt out. They were living in the usual pioneer settlers' house, and Mi Thomas was away from home working on the road, his wife also being away acting as schoolmistress, and the children being with her. They lost everything, and subscriptions to aid them in their distress will be r thankfully received at this office,
