FOOD COMMISSION
WHY FISH IS DEAR. Received July 22, r > a.m. By TplcKr:i)ih. IVc-«-- A(■!«.>< iat jnn. Cnpyriulit Sydney, This Day. Speaking before, the Foods Commission, Mr Stead, naturalist in tho Fisheries Department, gave evidence that twelve million pounds of fish last year were sent, to the Sydney and Newcastle markets. Often fishermen were prevented by those who own the interests, from sending fish to the market, for fear of creating a glut. Shoals of salmon and mullet were penned up, and allowed to escape when the market was not good enough. With better facilities of transit, and distribution the industry wan capable of enormous expansion.
