LOCAL BUTCHERS' FINED

At the Magistrate's Court Te Kuit' on Thursday before Mr F. O'B Loughnan S.M. and Messrs Floyd aid Cornish J.P's. E. C. Tassell (Mr Sharpies) was charged with foui breaches of the Slaughtering Act. Stock Inspector Huddlestone in giv in£ evidence described the condition of the knives and saws used as dirty Pigs had been allowed to run near the slaughter -house. On one occasion ht found hides, skins, a bucket filled with offal, and the contents of the stomach of an animal scattered over the floor The fore shoulder of a sheep had been eaten away and he gave evdence that both dogs and pigs had been in the slaughter-house. The Magistrate fined defendant £3 and costs on each of two charges convicted and discharged him on thtwo other charges, and endorsed hi? license, this being a second conviction. J. M. Albrechtsen (Mr Finlay) for failing to limewash his slaughterhouse, was fined 10s and further fined £3 and costs for failing to provide shelter for pigs. The Stock Inspector said the place where the pigs were allowed to run was in mud over their backs. Health Inspector Bennett described the yard in which the pigs were kept as "a miniature sea of mud." The Magistrate endorsed defendant's license, this being a second conviction.
