BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A meeting of th.e Te Kuiti Borough Council was held on Monday evening last, when there were present: The Mayor (Mr J. Boddie), Councillors Forsyth, Somerville, Young and Tammadge. Leave of absence was grantor] to Crs Sims, Lusk and Julian. A letter was received from Mr J. Erikson, Secretary of the l''ire Brigade, acknowledging receipt of the Council's letter re equipment. In reply to the Council's request for a list of the most necessary equipment the following list was submitted: One hose reel, 1 union, 2 branches, 1000 feet hose, 2 ladders, 2 torches, 2 lambs, 10 uniforms, 10 helmets, 10 caps, 16 pairs boots, 15 spanners, 10 belt and hatchet, 15 pair coupling, subidy £25; a total cost £l2l 15s. —Cr Somerville presented a report on Fire Brigade matters, showing equipment required, financial and other matters. — The question was considered at length, and items as suggested by Cr Somervlle were authorised. Mr S. H. Warner wrote re fencing on road, and filling of a ditch. —The Works Committee was instructed to / report on this matter. I Mr J. Erikson wrote re the road connecting King and Tawhana srteet. He anticipated building on his sec tion, and found a drain required attending to on this road. He would like to see this drain filled in and the road attended to. —Referred to the Works Committee. The Council resolved that Crs Young and Tammadge sign the memorial authorising the taking of land for quarrying purposes, as advised by the Borough Solieior. Resolved, that the sum of £4 0s 2d, k being interest for half-year ended July 31st, 1911, on £2005 5s 2d be paid to the public account. Mr L. V. Morgan requested permission to erect a sign on Mesrss Sutton Bros.' verandah. —Request granted, subject to the approval of the Building inspector. A letter, was received from the Minister of Railways, stating that the request from the Mayor and Chamber of Commerce of Te Kuiti, to have station verandah extended, would be granted. —Letter received, and a resolution passed thanking the Minister for his prompt attention to this matter. Messrs Watkins Bros, wrote re supply of road metal. The Worl;3 Committee was instructed to go into the matter of levels and kerbing in Rora street. Mr L. Jacob wrote suggesting that a traffic bridge be built connecting Sheridan and Rarango streets; also re the drain in Rarango street. —Resolved, that the Engineer report on the drain referred to, and that as no funds were available no action could be taken with regard the suggested bridge. A letter was received from the District Railway Engineer, with reference to the Department making use of the Borough water supply, and requesting to be supplied with a sample of same, also terms of supply.—The Council resolved that the Department be supplied at 9d per 1000 gallons. An analysis of the water had been forwarded. Tenders are to be called for the Borough carting. Accounts as presented were passed for payment. Resolved, that a copy of the Borough by-laws and Municipal Corporations Act be supplied to Councillors free of charge. The Borough Foreman was in- . structed to do certain necessary work on the Te Kumi road.
Cr Young reported that the Committee appointed to visit certain towns and inspect various lighting installations had carried out its instructions, and that the report had been prepared. —lt was decided that the report be considered by the Lighting Committee, who should report to the Council. The Engineer reported that he had available some 500 to 600 yard 3 of - , road metal, and awaited instructions f as to which roads should be first I metalled.
