CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH

— ANNIVERSARY SERVICES. SOCIAL GATHERING. The anniversary services in connection with the Congregational Church inTe Kuiti were held on Sunday last, the preacher on each occasion being the Rev. S. Griffiths, of Devonport. Considering the wretched weather, the attendance was very good. On Monday evening a Public Tea •was given in the Church, at which a large number of members of the congregation and their friends and children were present. The tables were prettily decorated with flowers, and loaded with a variety of attractive viands generously provided by the members of the congregation and friends, to which ample justice was done by those assembled. After the tea tables had been cleared away, a miscellaneous programme of song 3 and addresses was given. The Rev. R. Mitchell was in the chair, and proved a brief speaker and a model chairman. The Revs. Griffiths and Armstrong gave addresses, and song 3 were contributed by Messrs Tassell andGosden, a quartette, "Good-night, Beloved," by Mesdames Ovens and Atkinson and Messrs Nicholson and Gosden, and anthems by the choir. Mrs Ovens and Mr Dawson played the accompaniments at the piano, and Mr Nicholson at the organ. Dr Zobel read the annual balance sheet, which showed a small but satisfactory credit balance, the chairman and the speaker both remarking that they hoped shortly to be self-suppofting. Shortly before the conclusion of the proceedings, the Rev. Mitchell, on behalf of himself and a few friends, presented Miss Boddie with a silver-mounted blotter and writing pad, as some recognition of her long services as organist to the church.
