Newton King reports:— At Rahotu on Monday, 4th inat., there was a large yarding, but prices for young cattie were not as strong as at the previous sale. Mixed yearlings 213 to 395, yearling steers 28s to £2 2s, yearling hflifers 30s to £2 3s 6d, 18 month heifers £2 12s Gd to £2 15s, 2 year heifers £3 6a, springing heifers I £6 9s, store cows £2 to £2 10s, forward cows £3 15s, springing cows £5 to £6 10a, fat cows £6, bulls £2, 4 choice young Holstein bulls on account of Mr R. Morrow realised 13 to 18 guineas, 8 yearling Holstein heifers £2 14s 6d. At a clearing sale at Stratford on account of Mr Jas. Yandle, the few cattle sold were mostly purebred to pedigree Jerseys and realised good prices. Pedigree cow "Achushla" 40gs, "Caroline" 34gs, "Wild Wood" 35Jgs, "Gipsy Queen" 18gs, "Queen Mary" 19gs. ordinary cows £7 to £lO 10s, later £5 to £6 ss, store cows £3 to £3 ss, grade yearling heifers £2 14s, springing heifers £9 15a, pedigree Jersey bulls 8J to lljgs. On Wednesday I held a clearing sale at Tataraimaka on account of Messrs Wilkinson and Son, when there was a good attendance. All early calvers were well competed for, but aged and backward were not so saleable, sundries sold at fair prices. Early calvers £6 5s to £9 10s, later £3 15s to £5 15s, old 'cows £2 5s to £3 ss, 2 year heifers £3 2s, springing heifers £5 ss, weaners 245, sow £3 2s 6d.
