EMPIRE PICTURES. The programme to be produced by the above company at the Te Kuiti Hall on Monday next is highly spoken of by the Hamilton papers, where it has drawn very big houses during the week. The exhibition of swordsmanship by the champion swordsman of the British Army is itself an item of unusual merit. The dramatic subjects, especially a stirring tale of the Cuban war, entitled' "The Rough Rider's Romance," are allexceptionally good, and the comic and scenic subjects of more than passing merit. Given fine weather, there should be another good attendance on Monday evening. 7 —— AN EVENING WITH THE DRUIDS. In pursuance of their policy of dispensing good cheer the Te Kuiti Lodge of Druids held another of their popular card and dance socials in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening;. The attendance compared with the initial showed that dance lovers were at once impressed with the sociability of these functions; as those who were at the opening social were again present on Wednesday—together with many others. Owing to the chill nature of the weather, t*-e ladies decided in favour of dancing, and the euchre tournament wa3 postponed. The earnest and hard-working Social Committee spared no effort, and Mesdames Simpson, Tassell, Feran and Fletcher again won hearty approval by their management of the supper arrangements. Messrs Blackman and Cobb kindly lent chairs for use on the stage and in the supper room. The floor was in splendid condition, and the music supplied by Mr J. Hetet, with extras by Messrs Gill and Walker was of the most pleasing nature. Mr E. C. Tassell was again the ideal Master of Ceremonies. ALEXANDRA RINK. The skating carnival was tinued on Thursday night, when there was a large attendance. There were many fancy dresses, which lent a charm to the proceedings. During the evening there were many kinds of skating indulged in. and the exhibition given- by Messrs Coles and Walker was particularly good. A hockey match was also played and created considerable amusement. The management are to be congratulated on their successful carnival.
