WANTED.—NURSES.
LADY ISLINGTON APPEALS. It will be remembered .that some few months ago a peculiarly touching case was reported in which Mr atid Mrs Mangahutu, lost two children by diphtheria. The account of the sad fatality was published widely through the Dominion and aroused much public sympathy. Lady Islington, who has already shown not only her kindness of heart but her practical helpfulness on behalf of those who suffer from the effects of an isolated life, is now making a telling appeal on behalf of providing nurses for the back-blocks. She instances a case to illustrate the necessity that exists, and mentioned in an address to the recent meeting of the St. John Ambulance Association in Wellington, that schemes were in existence and plans were being prepared whereby she hoped a chain of cottages would be provided through New Zealand where skilled nurses would be available by telephone to go to the assistance of those in need.
