INTERFERING ENGLISHMAN.

A well-known London barister in Paris , was passing down a back street when he saw a gentleman drive up in a smart brougham and hurriedly enter a restaurant. In<ths gutter behind ' the carriage there was standing a hot-chestnut man with his apparatus, and while his back was turned a young gamin made haste to conned the brougham and the chestnut stove with a piece of cord. . A moment later the gentleman emerged from the restaurant, the brougham, started, and with a crash the stove turned over, distributing chestnuts and glowing embers over the street. Then there was a terrible to-do. The :hestnut man wept and wrung his hands and a crowd quickly collected and began to collect and appropriate chestnuts.
