TARANAKI LAND BOARD.

At a meeting of the Taranaki Land Board held laßt week there were present: The Commissioner of Crown Lands, in the chair, Messrs Heslop, Rattenbury, and Kennedy. The following applications were received for freehold and approved:— W. A. Cleaver, sections 1 and 2, block 2, Pouatu; C K. McCutchan, section 12, block 6, Pouatu; G. H. Rawlinson, section 3, block 3, Ngatimaru. A. J. Whittaker wrote asking that the forfeiture of section 1, block. 2, Piopiotea West, be considered. The Under-secretary for Lands also wrote asking that the matter be again brought before the Board. —It was resolved that the, Board sees no reason to alter its previous decision and requests the Under-secretary to gazette the forfeiture. |The Resident Road Engineer submitted a proposal for the deviation of Mangaopa road in section 41, block 6, Ngatimaru.—Resolved that the approval of the Board be affixed to trac-

ing. It was decided to recommend the disposal of part-section 4, block 10, Ngatimaru, to the lessee of section 43, block 6, Nagtimaru, for cash in terms of section 131 of the Land Act 1908, at £2 per acre, approximate area being 15| acres, in accordance with the argeement between the Resident Boad Engineer and the settlers concerned.

Deadman, section 3, block 15, Ohura, application refused, notice to be given to Mr Harris that his interest is forfeited, and to Mr Deadman that he is illegally in possession of the section; P. and J. O'Connor to Jno. O'Connor, section 16, block 15, Ngatimaru, approved; C. C. M. and P. R. Farhham to W. K. Watson, sections 7, 21 and 6, block 2, Ngatimaru. approved; Wm. Copeland to C. R. section 1. block 13. Kapara, approved; Harry Lett to L. Maudsley, section 13, block 11, Mimi, approved; M. Kennington to A. E. Kemp, section 32, block 11. Ngaire, approved; A. L. Chard to J. H. Slight, section 1, block 11, Upper Waitara, approved; Smith and Bray to A. J. Bray, section 3, block 6, Mahoe, approved. Subleases.— A Mackinnon to A. Hayward, section 2, block 12, Ohura, Board has no power to sublet part, but will approve of a sublease of the whole section; T. K. Skinner to E. J. Theobald, section 2, block 2, Omona approved; C. M. Hawken to J. G. Buchanan, sections 5 and 10, block 14, Waro, deferred for Ranger's report; Jas. Rooney to Wm. Phillips, sections 25 and 26, block 9, Ngaeimaru, referred to Ranger for report; Jas. Phillips to H. and G. Blank, section 8, block 11, Aria, referred to Ranger for report; Ann Jones to J. F. Jones, section 7, block 5, Upper Waitara, approved; F. G. Weitzel to M. R. Wilson, Section 90, block 4, Paritutu, approved subject to everything being in order. Application was made for extension of time to register the following transfers:—Harvey and Norris to H. R. E. Harvey, section 2, block 11, Ohura, two months extension granted; M. Pittams to M. and W. Pittams, section 4, block S, Rangi, and sublease, one month extension granted; S. H. and 5. A. Jenkins to H. Miskelly, section 35, block 15, Ngaire, registration may be effected. Leases to Issue. The following improved farm settlers applied for their leases to issue:—J. Han ley, section 8, block 11, Heao; G. Ingham, section 11, block 14, Ohura.—lt was resolved that leases be issued accordingly. Mr J. C. Loan, home missionary for the Presbyterian Church, Normanby, applied for sections 105 and 132, Mokoia township, or a church site. Messrs Caplen, Welsh and McCarthy applied on behalf of C. J. Hawken for the same sections and section 94. —It was resolved that section 105 be offered to Mr Loan in terms of section 140 of the Land Act, 1908, at a valuation to be made by the Ranger, and the remainder of the Crown sections be valued at the same time—sections 83, 94, and 132. James Hutchin applied for section 1 .block 13, Mimi, as an addition to j bis holding.—Referred to the Ranger for report as to advisability of permanently disposing of the land. He also applied for part section 5, block 18, Waro. Refered to the Ranger. W. A. Harrison applied for a yearly lease of 26 acres of section 110, block 12, Cape Police reserve. —lt wm resolved that a yearly tenancy be granted at a rental of £2O per annum, and that a similar tenure of half an acre of the reserve be granted to Mr J. Macßeynolds at a rent of £1 per aanuni, the attention of lessees to be drawn to-, the necessity of keeping noxious wields in check. James Martin applied for a lease of section 11, block 3, Aria. —It was resolved that a yearly tenancy be granted to the applicant at a rental of £2 10s per annum, terminable by three months' notice on either side. The Commissioner reported that W. B. Reid had deserted his section 4, block 7, Maho. that consideration be deferred to next meeting, and the ranger's report be obtained in the meantime.

Ranger's Report.—E. Tolme, Grown Lands Ranger, reported on the application of G. H. Doar to take timber from part of Whatitokarua Block.—It waa r«solved that the report be adopted subject to the usual conditions Mto payment of an i super- /■■

vision.—Mr To Jme also reported on section 6, block 11, Aria, originally set aßide for timber.—lt was decided that the report be adopted and the land offered for selection under optional terms..—He also reported on the application of L. E. Meredith to take timber from the bush pehind Mangaroa township.—Resolved, that the report be adopted and a license granted for twelve months under section 307 of the Land, Act, 1908, on the same conditions as existing license over other portions of the township. •—Mr Tolme reported on the proposal for sheep dip and sale yards for Tatu settlers.—Decided, that about 41 acres of section 12, block 9, Ohura, be offered at public auction at a valuation to be made by the Ranger. —Mr Tolme also reported on the expenditure of the Mangare road loan by the Whangamomona County Council. —Resolved, that a certificate be issued accordingly. The Motoroa Road Board submitted proposala for expenditure of £7 16b 8d accrued "thirds."—Approved provided" Ranger's report i'b satisfactory. C. J. Sears wrote consenting to the "thirds" from his sections 4 and 5, block 11, Cape, being spent on Dover road by the Okato Road Board.— Money to be paid over to Okato Road Board in tenure of original proposals. The Under-secretary for . Lands wrote forwardng a copy of a letter from the Acting-Minister of Lands with regard to payment of rent in Tangitu and Mapara Improved Farm Settlements an issue of leases and licenses. '

J. H, Brown applied for extenaion ' of timeto reside on section 9, block 1, Tangitu.—Consideration deferred to next meeting. Forfeiture of Holdings.—The following settlers in the Tangitu Improved Farm Settlement appealed againßt forfeiture of their holdings:— R. F. Beau train, section 3, block 12, Mapara; R. Henderson, section 14, block 1. Mapara; A. W. King, section 5, block 12, Mapara.—Resolved, that the forfeiture of R. F. Beaiitrais' interest be rescinded and he be granted to October 1 next to have a house erected and reside on the land.—Resolved, that the forfeiture of A. W. King'B interest be rescinded and that he be granted until September 1 next to have his wife and family residing with him on the section.—Alao resolved, that Ranger's report on R. Henderson's section be adopted. The Board considered the cases of settlers in default in the Tangitu Improved Farm Settlement:—R. N. Saunders, section 15, block 11, Mapara; consideration deferred for one month. J. Gaulding, section 20, bjock 1, Tangitu; report satisfactory.—James Miller, section 7, block 2, Tangitu; forfeited.—J. H. Brown, section 9, block 1, Tangitu; deferred to next meeting.—R. Cleaver, section 15, block 11, Mapara; granted to October 1 to build house and reBide with his family.—J. Moloney, section 12, block 12, Mapara; previous resolution accepting , surrender to stand.—P. G. D. A. Guinan, section 25, block 11, Mapara; granted to February 1 for the Bettler to get his wif« and family on land, in meantime to proceed diligently with erection of house and improvements.

Messrs Roy and Nicholson, on behalf of A. Hagenson, forwarded purchase money for freehold of part of. section 8, block 8, Waro.—Resolved, that the application be left in the hands of the Commissioner, and in the meantime to be advertised in accordance with the and Act, 1908. J. R. Herbert wrote stating he would accept yearly lease of part of section 8, block 7, Waro, and asking for one acre for cash.—Referred to Ranger for report. H. T. Twiss, Crown Lands Ranger, reported on the inspection of five holdings: Improvements required £2OBI, effected £4362; one selector is in default for residence. - E. Tolme, Ranger, reported on the inspection of two holdings: Improvements required £719, effected £332; both are in default for improvements.—Resolved, that usual notice be sent to those who have not complied. H. Jury forwarded an application for part of section 5, block 13, Waro —B2 acres—ae £1 per acre. —Resolved, that the Inad be disposed of under section 129 of the Land Act, 1908, at a valuation to be made by Ranger. The Clifton County Council applied to exchange portion of Clifton road (closed) through sections 18, and 19, block 10, Mimi, for the proposed new road through part section 14, block 10 Mimi.—Governor to be recommended to exchange the land with W. J. Parsons, owner of land required for new road, Upon a plan being subr mitted uner section 137 ot the Public Works Act, 1908. B. McMaster, section 1, block 4, Rangi, for non-residence, to be notified of forfeiture. ' EDUCATION RESERVE LEASES. Transfers.—J. J. Walker to H. Low, section 86, Mangamingi suburban; G. Jones to S. E. Kemp, part* - section 107, block 2. Ngaire; J. and E. Pierce to A. Lee, section 40, block 6, Ngaire; J. W. Paulger to J. R. Parkinson, section 110, block 2, Ngaire; P. G. Brooking to E. Leigh, part-section 107, block 2, Ngaire; Geo. Rae to W. F. McAllum, sections. 517-519, New Plymouth; J. Boutten to M. Meuli, section 7, block 11, Omona. —The board approved of these, transfers, subject to all condition being fulfilled .McGregor and Ciochetto to J J Hills and J. J. Hills to R. A. McKenzie, part section 2, block 8, Opaku. Deferred for ranger's report. Sublease.—O. J. Hawken to J. G. Buchanan, section 3, block 14, Waro. —Deferred for Ranger's report. Mortgages.—The Board approved of several mortgages submitted. Messrs Malone, Anderson and Johnstone solicitors wrote applying for rectification of reneweed lease of section 113 Maniranui district W. D. Colson.— Consideration defrered to next meeting in the meantime Commissioner to investigate the matter.—J. T. Harrington and J. U. Costigan wrote declining renewal of lease of section 10

block 13 Hawera S.D.— Deferred for report of Ranger. Re J. N. Gamlin's application for change of tenure, sections 562, 563,. etc., New Plymouth it was resolved to obtain legal interpretation of section 2 (3) Education Reserves Amendment Act, 1910. W. Newell applied for lease of section 9, block 8. Opaku. Application declined and all reserves to be withdrawn from lease for present with a view to adoption of a uniform system of lease.
