NATIVE LANDS.
PROGRESS IN SETTLEMENT. Wellington, This Day. The system of dealing with Native lands through the medium of the Maori Land Boards has been working for about a year in the Nbrth Auckland district. Mr Dinnie, President of the Tokerau Board, states that the natives have thorough confidence in the system, and a good deal of progress in settlement has resulted. Within a month between 50,000 and 60,000 acres of native jand in the Matatnu Block, Whangarei, will be placed on the market, and a further large area in the Ponto Bock near the west coast, will, be av&ilable for European settlement, shortly.. A timber area near Kawakawa, containing fine kauri and mixed woods, will be thrown open for lease _ ,to millers through the Board. > .
