COUNTRY NEWS.

(Own Correspondents). Kiritehere —Mocatoa. The long expected cricketers' dance was held in the hall, Marokopa, on Friday evening. Bth inst. Some impromptu speeches given by members of the club proved an interpsting feature of the evening. Each speaker drew his flame and subject by separate ballot, and some interesting efforts were the result. One bachelor spoke on ironing, another on Home Kule, while a third expressed his opinion of tee keeping. A pleasant supper supplied by the ladies was partaken of at midnight. Dancing was sustained till morning. Some of our local cricketers were rather backward in coming forward with their financial support, but we suppose that they will pay up before the season arrives. The sum of about £1 of the original debt of the Cricket Club remains to be paid. Many thanks are due to certain energetic persons who worked hard to make the dance a Huccess. Otorohanga.

Every day Bees land seekers coming to this palace and most are looking for dairying land. Complaints are very rife concerning the frightful condition of our main street, with its muddy bog holes and Mocked up water tables. The telephone authorities have had men here the last few days connecting four new subscribers to the Exchange. As showing the development that is going on in the surrounding country, it is reported on good authority that three thousand totara fencing posts arrived laßt week at the railway station, and I saw two four-horae waggons' loaded up with strainers only. Great sympathy is felt with Mr and Mra Curtia, who lost their three months old baby. As the child died suddenly and before a doctor could be communicated with, Mr Teasdale, the coroner, held an inquest. Dr Reekie performed a post mortem examination and found that heart failure was the trouble. Our schoolmaster, Mr Colquhoun, who ia an enthusiastic footballer, took a team of boys down to Te Awamutu to have a football match. The game was well contested, and ended with a win for the Te Awamutu boys by 3 to nil.
