At the meeting of the Sanitation and Fire Prevention Committee on Monday afternoon Cr Somerville was elected Chairman. The pianos being exhibited in part of Messrs Blackman and Cobb's shop by Chas. Begg and Coy. are worthy of inspection being excellently finished, with a sweet tone, and the easy time payment system brings them within the reach of all. They cord* ially invite the residents of Te Kuiti and the surrounding districts to call and inspect them. All pianos sold will be delivered free with case. A voluminous amount of correspondence regarding the various kinds of light was received by the Borough Council on Monday night. The following were constituted a committee to deal with lighting:—The Mayor, and Crs Yoang, Hardy, Lusk, Sims and Julian. The Borough Councir had a late meeting on Monday night it being almost midnight before the business was concluded. In order to cope with the work the Council agreed to meet again on Tuesday week. The engagement is announced of Rev. H. 0. Townsend Hanby to Miss Kenderdine, daughter of the late Mr Kenderdine and sister of Mr Kenderdine. ot Taumarunui. Our cordial congratulations. During the discussion on Fire Brigade matters at the Borough Council on Monday evening, his Worship the Mayor asked the Borough Engineer when he thought the water supply would be available. The Engineer in reply said that all going well the water would be in the Borough next October. At the meeting of the Borough Council on Monday night, Mr C. Chilcott wrote asking the Borough Council to take action with regard to hawkers. He considered that they should be made to take out a license. There were no less than six hawkers with jewellery in the town every week. The Council decided to reply that if Mr Chillcott would give them the necessary information that they would be prepared to assist in the prosecution of these men.

It is scarcely six years since this firm started operations in the Waikato, and by supplying up to date goods at right prices, they have advanced until the present time the business is the largest of its kind in the district. We can therefore with confidence recommend the public to place their orders with Barton and Boss, Ltd., who w'll executte all orders with despatch, credit to their large establishments and satisfaction to tbe purchaser. Messrs J. A. Williams and Son, tailors, have an announcement in this issue to the effect that they have purchased from Mr C. Hodg3on tbe tailoring business rceently carried on by him. Tbe new firm, who have also a branch at Waih>', guarantee the work, and will always carry a large assortment of up to date suitings. That Te Kuiti is substantially sound and progressive, and that confidence in its future prevails was shown by the large and representative gathering that, in spite of the inclement weather gathered at the Exchange Sale Rooms on Saturday, the occasion being the sale of Mr Travers* sections, bidding was somewhat slow at first, but livened up, and six of the sections were sold at prices ranging from £9O to £l6O. There still remain three of the sections, being subdivisions of the large block which was offered in one. Mr Graham weilded the hammer, and the agents Messrs Mackay and Jones, were in. attendance. We understand that on Thursday Mr Graham will offer a further lot of forty sections, including very choice business and residential sites, as also 15 acres of freehold, besides j acre and cottage and other I acre building sites, these last being freehold.
