STREETS UNDER WATER. [BY TKLKGRATIL— I'RKSrf ASSOCIATION.] Auckland, This Day. A torrential downpour of rain occurred here this morning Queen street is flooded, and in many places the water has over-flown the kerbing up to the building line. Many cellars are flooded, some as much as four feet, and a good deal of damage has been done to goods below the street level. Nearly all the hotels and restaurants in the lower levels of the city suffered severely, and there have been numerous instances of fires being extinguished. Cooks in various places including half a dozen of the leading hotels, were standing knee-deep in water whilst preparing the midday meal. The downpour lasted about an hour, and was followed by a steady drizzle.
