OTOROHANGA.
(From Our Own Correspondent)
Altough no official word has yet come along, I hear on very good authority that a Stationmaster has been apnointed for Otorohanga, who will commence his duties during the course of the next three or four weeks. This is, undoubtedly, a step in the right direction and one tor which the Otorohanga the Farmers' Union has been agitating for some time. Mr S. Hughes the present porter in charge will perhaps be transferred. The residents will be sorry to lose this obliging official, as during his thirteen months' sojourn here, he has always carried out }ii3 duties in a very creditable manner, and has give universal satisfaction. The Town Clerk, Mr H. J. Osmond, informs me that a new entrance will shortly be opened into the railway station, on the east side. The gates will probobly be in Maniapoto street, just opposite the Bank of New Zealand. This should prove a great boon to settlers living on the south side of the township, viz., Kio Kio, Mangaronga and Rangitoto. The Anglican Church Committee secured a section at the recent sale, on which it is proposed to build a vicarage. The section is in a good residential part of the town, and commands a splendid view. ! A very considerable sum has been j collected*for the purpose of building ' a Roman Catholic Church in Otorohanga. An ideal site was secured at the recent sale of sections, and the Committee are in hopes that a sufficient sum will have been contributed ! during the next few months to enable them to make a start with the edifice. A concert in aid oi' the church will be given in the near future, at which some excellent Auckland talent will be heard. The proceeds of this concert will undoubtedly swell the fun i | to a considerable amount. ! The second householders' meeting j to elect a School Committee for the ! ensuing year has been fixed by the ! Board of Education for Monday, June i sth, at 7 p.m., in Turner's Hall. It | is to be hoped a good number will be ; present. 1 Tho Sjcond stock in the nsw j saleyards is to be held on Friday next, | It is expected that there will be an- ! other large yarding of Those ' sellers who wish to secure first pens • are advised to have their stock there early.
