Ringworm, that ailment of childhood, is prevalent in Te Kuiti just now, and several cases have occurred amongst pupils at the State school. The practise of using a common towel is probably responsible for the spread of the disease, and parents should insist on their children taking and using their own towels. Mr A. Yates, of Pio Pio, who has been laid up in the Waikato Hospital for two months past, is now getting much better, and will be up and about again in two or three weeks timeStaff Sergeant-Instructor Mooney is making a bouse to house visitation in Te Kuiti and district in connection with the registration of youths between the ages of 14 and 21. There is a penalty of £5 hanging out for delinquents who fail to register by June 2, after which date the lists will be compared with the census returns to see who have failed to register. It is very probable that the Irish Envoys, Messrs Hazelton, Redmond and Donovan will be invited to address a public meeting in Te Kuiti. A petition is being signed asking the Mayor to call a meeting to discuss the question. If invited a date in June will probably be selected. J. R. Graham will shortly be selling by auction 30 sections of the pick of Te Kuiti business and residential sites. Te Kuiti Bowling and Croquet Club intends holding a series of socials at intervals of three weeks throughout the winter months. The first will be held in the Public Hall on Friday May 26th. Fuller details will be duly advertised later. The Government are taking about 5000 acres of land for a prison reformatory and mental hospital near Te Awamutu mostly cleared and ready for buildings. Some 1500 acres are Crown and the remainder Native land. Compensation is assessable by the Native Land Court where Native land is taken under the Public Works Act and a sitting is to be held at Te Kuiti about a week hence. The Government valuation is about 30s per acre. The famous Roslyn writing pad, 100 sheets, inclduing splendid picture of Rotorua, etc., all for 6d, from local storekeepers.*
