King Country Chronicle Wednesday, May 3, 1911. THE TRAIN SERVICES.
The announcement made in another column that passenger carriages are to be attached to the morning and evening goods trains leaving Frankton at 7 a.m. for Te Kuiti and Taumarunui, and 'Taumarunui at 5 p.m. for Te Kuiti and Frankton, and stopping at all stations en route, will be welcomed by a very large number of residents in the King Country as an increase of travelling facilities most urgently needed. The Minister for Railways states that the service is a three months' experimental one, but if we may venture into the hazardous realms of prophecy, we think there will be every reason to consider the service a permanent one, once the experience has been gained. It enables Waikato passengers to leave Frankton in the early morning, visit Ohaupo, Te Awamutu, Te Kuiti, or even Taumaurnui, and return the same night, either by the evening goods train or the night mail. Especially will the benefits ofthe additional facilities be felt by settlers in the Ohura, who have ocea-
sion to visit Te Kuiti or Ohaupo for the sales. They may connect with the night goods at Ongarue, and reach their destination the same night, retnrning the following day to Ongarue. The new facilities deserve to be widely known. The difficulties Otorohanga district business men have suffered from in not having regular banking facilities will now be overcome, and generally, those in the smaller centres along the line, hitherto debarred from visiting their neighbours and returning the same night, will appreciate the new facilities. The new service starts on Monday next.
