y ! CHAIRMAN'S REPORT. 3 : The following report on the finances of the Waitomo County foi the year '" ending March 31st, 1911, was read at y last night's meeting of the Council. "The Audit Inspector has just com--0 pleted his annua! audit of the Council's books, and duly certified to y same. The total receipts for the year were: General account (includt : ing £l7B 10s Sd paid by the' Borough ' . when the adjustment was made, £678 3 S3 Id rates 1910-11, £579 4s 2d rates ' | 1909-10, £7l 2s 2d rates 190S-09, £95 • , 3s arrears from previous years, £267 3 ; 7s 2d (subsidy on rates 1909-10)£2017. \ ; Expenditure (including £295 12s 9d ' for new office and buildings, £173 lis ; 'l3d paid to Waikato Hospital and ' : Charitable Aid Board, £97 7s paid for survey of road —(o be again refunded to the Council, £474 5s 6d for road construction and maintenance) ' '£2oo 7s 6d ; leaving a credit balance ;to general account of £9 8s 6d. The Land Fund Account: During the year the Council received £3146 4s 5d on ; account of "thirds"; they have expended (on various roads giving access) £2339 17s 3d, leaving a balance in hand of £SO6 7b 2d. Government Grants Account: The Council \ during the year have supervised the ' spending of thirty-nine Government : grants, amounting to £4237 lis 7d; | out of that amount the Council have j spent £748 lis 6d in anticipation, | which has been paid from the County ! fund —the amount has been claimed i and should come to hand any day. i Interest Account: The interest on : Te Kuiti loan of £2200 has been paid ; from the special rate, leaving a balance in hand of £1 10s 7d—the loan j has not yet been transferred to the i Borough. The auditor advises that the interest in August has to be | paid by the County, and that the | special rate notices should be issued 1 at once by the County so as to have sufficient special rates in to pay the interest. The next interest on Mangaorino loan will have to be j paid from the special rate to be | collected for that purpose, notices of : same to be issued at once. Loans Account: Te Kuiti loan, the balance to credit £l9B 12s 9d, is as your Council are aware locked up at the present, the Council having no juris- ' diction to spend any further money in ' the Borough. Mangaorino loan has a balance to credit of £lO 5s sd, which 1 the Council propose spending in due ; course. Mataparu loan, of £SOO, ; the Treasury has remitted £497 7s : lld; a contract has been let amount- ' ing to £4OB, the balance, £92, to be | spent later. Pukearuhe loan of £1000; ! the Treasury has remitted £994 14s lid, a contract has also been let in : connection with this loan of £798 10s, i leaving a balance of £196 43 lid to be i further expended. Since the 31st March, £995 of the Honikivvi loan ' has been paid into the Council's i crsdit. To the 31st March, 1911, the , Council's public debt amounted to | £4710 5s lid, of which £2205 5s 2d I belongs to the Borough, and also a '[ proportion of the Mangaorino loan to be yet adjusted. Concluding, I have I to congratulate the Council on the : successful year. The Council at present has a considerable amount of work .in progress. Since last meeting contracts to the amount of £2153 14s 8d i have been let to various persons, who I are making satisfactory progress."
